Sibley’s West mask-maker, mystery author and polymer clay artist Laurie Fagen of Chandler is launching a new web series called “AZ Creates!” which premieres on YouTube at 7 pm Thursday, Sept. 10. Sibley’s West: The Chandler and Arizona Gift Shop is a sponsor of “AZ Creates!”
The web series will feature two half-hour episodes a month, highlighting Arizona artists, writers, dancers, musicians; film, theatre or TV creatives; and various artisticly-inclined people across the state.
Each show will also include a segment with an Arizona writer, who will read a short section from their book, as well as an upcoming-events segment, “Something to Look Forward To.” That piece will be co-hosted by Cathy Beard (below), a Clemente Ranch resident, graphic artist and audio book narrator.
Fagen, the former publisher of SanTan Sun News, designed the program to bring something positive to viewers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Creatives are having a tough time during the pandemic, with galleries closed and shows canceled,” Fagen explained. “We want to help support artists and bring them directly to art patrons. We also want to feature the creative ways people and businesses are helping their communities.”
Here is a short video she produced about the show.
On the first show, choreographer/dancer Pamela Cannedy (above) will be featured.
Cannedy is a long-time musical theatre choreographer in the Valley, having owned Cannedy Dance Centre for the Performing Arts with husband Stepan Oleksyn for 30 years. It is now AZ Dance District. Cannedy is currently choreographing shows for the Prescott Center for the Arts and Yavapai College.
The author segment -- called “What Are You Reading?” -- will feature Lee Travathan of Queen Creek (below). She will talk about her new inspirational book, “Loved Beyond Compare,” which she says “opens you up to who and what you truly are beyond the lies of the ego.”
The program will close with a “Creative Quote of the Day.”
Sibley's West, which now features gift items from more than 200 Arizona artists, is happy to see Fagen's efforts on behalf of the arts community.
"Laurie has such a talent for spotlighting all forms of art and knowing how to bring that art to the community," said Sibley's West co-owner Michelle Wolfe. "We think a twice-monthly show on YouTube will introduce fascinating people to not just people in Chandler but, really, to people around the world."
Sponsorships are available with reasonable rates and discounts for multi-show commitments.
Sponsors for the premiere show are Sibley’s West: The Chandler and Arizona Gift Shop and Times Media.
