Arizona to Izmir: Nov. 7-8 Fund-raiser at Sibley's West for Turkish Earthquake Victims

Posted by John Wolfe on 4th Nov 2020

10% of sales at Sibley’s West this weekend

will go to support victims of last week’s

devasting earthquake in western Turkey

Last week’s destructive earthquake in the Turkish city of Izmir hit close to home for the Sibley’s West family as our Turkish exchange student, Cagla Bayraktar, lost three extended-family members in the devastation.

Cagla, who lives in Istanbul, Turkey, attended Chandler High School last year as an exchange student through the AFS program and the U.S. State Department’s Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program. She made many friends throughout the school and volleyball program.

This fund-raiser aims to provide relief to the victims of the earthquake in Izmir and was created on behalf of YES program alumni in Turkey. The funds received via this fund-raiser will be managed and distributed by YES alumni in Turkey. Izmir has produced almost 100 YES alumni since the YES Program began in 2003, while also hosting various YES Abroad students.

The YES Program alumni invite their families and friends in the United States to join YES Alumni to help heal the damage of the people of this great city.
